Fair theme for 2024: ‘Ticket to Fairadise’
“Ticket to Fairadise” has been selected as the theme of next year’s Big Horn County Fair.
The fair board made the choice at its Dec. 4 meeting. It had been suggested by Tracy Haley, who serves on the board. There will again be a fair book cover contest, asking for art that reflects the theme.
Also discussed was the Winter Festival in the indoor arena on January 20. The mechanical bull purchased for the fair will make its debut at the festival. Board members were given a demo, minus a rider, after the board meeting.
University of Wyoming County Educator Gretchen Gasvoda said many of the 4-H groups throughout the county plan on being at the festival and having an activity there. A petting zoo, duck pond, plinko board, cake walk and shooting sports are just some of the things that attendees will be able to do. Proceeds will go for fair projects.
Fair Manager Cash Duncan told the board there were around 40 entries for the fair logo contest. The board will review and vote on them next month.
Duncan provided a sketch of a gateway on the west end of the fairgrounds. He said the only cost to the county would be the labor and the concrete; materials have been donated. The board voted to approve the plan.
He also presented a proposal for changing the handicapped parking for the hall. The proposal also included creating a vendor row with fencing just west of the current midway. The board approved the proposal. Duncan planned to present it to the county commissioners.
In other business:
• A sign will be placed at the walk-in doors for the indoor arena telling people not to use these doors to bring their horses in the building.
• Farm Bureau has indicated they would like to host a goat roping event in the indoor arena this winter.
• Upgrades of the auctioneer booth for the livestock sale are being done. Big Horn Co-op is sponsoring the upgrade.
• The board tabled deciding on inflatables for next year’s fair.
• Members of the public have approached Duncan about changing the derby to Saturday. The board didn’t want to make that change at this point. There may be a ranch rodeo during fair next year.
