Food pantry cupboards in need of supplies

The Basin Area Food Pantry’s cupboards are running low on food and supplies to help those experiencing food insecurity.
Located inside the Basin Area Chamber, the pantry is designed to help people who have a short-term need. Non-perishable food items, toilet paper and paper towels are needed. Meat would also be appreciated
Charlene Anderson, one of the volunteers who runs the food pantry, said demand for food has increased since the food distribution at the fairgrounds stopped. That was a Wyoming Food Bank outreach program.  The local volunteer organizers retired.
The food pantry also distributes Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets. Monetary donations will be used to purchase turkeys and hams for the baskets as well as fresh food items such as eggs and milk as needed.
Food/supply donations may be left in the foyer of the chamber and/or at Basin’s Market. Monetary donations made be mailed to PO Box 284, Basin, WY 82410. Perishable items like meat which will be put in freezers may be donated by calling Anderson at 307-272-4340 or Lori Thon at 307-250-1678.
At a recent Basin Area Chamber meeting, two people volunteered to help with food collection. One was 4-H Educator Gretty Gasvoda and the Big Horn County Extension Office, which is sponsoring a drawing for a local gift certificate. To enter, bring 10 nonperishable items/paper products to the Extension office, 208 S. Fifth St., in Basin, or call Gasvoda at 307-272-0576.
Healing Touch Massage and Wellness owner MauRena Scott is offering massage discounts up to $10. Those who bring items to her shop will receive $1 off for each item donated up to $10. Scott’s business is located at 209 S. Fourth St. in Basin.
The Basin Baptist, at 21 Wyoming Highway 30, also has collection boxes in the foyer.
