G-R takes second in Shoshoni
Greybull-Riverside won five of seven duals last weekend, placing second at both the Big Horn County Dual Championships Friday in Lovell and at the Wrangler Duals Saturday in Shoshoni.
Coach Rob Nuttall said his team defeated Rocky Mountain but lost to Lovell at the annual county showdown.
Against the Grizzlies, G-R lost just a single match, at 132 pounds.
The Lovell dual ended with the Bulldogs on top, 51-27, “but we gave up 30 points, being open at five weights,” said Nuttall, “Overall, we wrestled well. Outside of those forfeits, I think we only lost three matches.”
G-R enjoyed even more success at the Wrangler Duals, beating Wind River, Shoshoni, Rocky Mountain and the Riverton JV before meeting its match in the championship round where it lost to Big Piney, the No. 3 ranked team in 2A.
The final was 51-20, with Loomis Alexander, Ty Strohschein, Reece Whisenant and Curtis Strohschein notching wins for G-R.
“A lot of good things happened for us,” said Nuttall. “There is always room room for improvement, but right now, I’m really encouraged by how our guys are wrestling.”
On the girls side, Gabby Dowling went undefeated, but Elizabeth Holloway was hampered by an injury and held out of her final matches.
G-R competes at the Don Runner Invitational this weekend in Pavilion.
