GHS teams cap pre-holiday portion of schedules
With this issue being printed on Monday morning, the Greybull Standard staff could not produce stories on the high school teams’ performances last weekend.
Additional details will appear in the Jan. 2 issue, but here were some of the highlights:
After going 1-3 at tournaments in Wright and Glenrock, the Greybull boys won two of three at the Foothills Classic hosted by Wyoming Indian and Wind River schools.
The Buffs routed Moorcroft 60-28 in their Friday opener and snuck by Tongue River 48-42 Saturday, but lost to Wright, 72-40 count. It was the Buffs’ second loss of the season to the top-ranked Panthers.
The Lady Buffs also moved to 3-4, throttling Moorcroft 59-44 and losing by a single point, 41-40, to Wright on day one before being blitzed by No. 2-ranked Tongue River, 62-28 on Saturday.
The girls narrowed the gap with Wright after losing to the Panthers by 12 during the opening weekend.
Greybull-Riverside enjoyed a successful weekend at the Battle in the Big Horns, winning the Bronze bracket and reaping several individual titles.
The grapplers lost all three of their Pool C duals, falling by scores of 39-30 to Glenrock, 42-24 to Cody and 36-24 to Buffalo. But they regrouped in the Bronze bracket, slipping by Wheatland 34-30 and Newcastle 30-29 while losing to Jackson 42-24
Gabby Dowling, Loomis Alexander and Curtis Strohschein reigned in their respective weight classes while Michael Bassett and Elizabeth Holloway each placed second in the Best of the Best competition which capped off the tournament.
On the JV side, Ben Mendenhall placed second and Carter Peasley fifth.
