GMS LEGO Leaguers compete at State

Greybull Middle School’s LEGO League team members had a successful showing at the state competition held Saturday, Dec. 2 in Casper.  Fifty-two teams competed in the all-day event.
Returning team members Madison Winters, Layla Cariveau and James Ingersoll led GMS’s nine-person squad, which also included Kenzie Blair, Alexandra Stanzione, Leon Bankhead-Danner, Eleanor Gard, Mattix Myers and Giana Fajardo.
Michelle Stebner and Scharen Collingwood coached the LEGO League team.
“Although we were a young team this year, we had consistent scores in the robot game,” said Collingwood. “Students coded their robot to complete five of the 15 possible missions.”
In the first two rounds of the robot game, they earned 140 points in each round. That was the team’s high score for the day. During the third round of the robot game, GMS students earned 130 points.
They worked really hard this year to build their consistency during practice rounds and it was great to see all of their hard work pay off at the competition,” Collingwood said, adding, “Their consistency also carried over to the presentation portion of the competition as well. They crushed their presentations this year. Everyone gave their best effort and delivered their parts with confidence.”
The theme this year was “Masterpiece” and teams were challenged to use the arts to share their hobby with others. Greybull’s students chose hunting as their hobby and they created a video for their innovation project as a way to spread the word about the physical health benefits as well as the environmental benefits of hunting to kids in Wyoming who don’t currently hunt.
