GMS A notches two-point win over Riverside
Kayson Herebia scored the first two baskets and Colt Collingwood took it from there, pouring in 18 points to lead Greybull to a 36-34 win over the Riverside in a matchup of A teams Friday evening in the GMS Gym.
Greybull lost the other evening’s other matchups. With its B team sitting it out, the C team lost to the Rebel B 45-29 and the D team lost to the Rebel C 24-11. Despite the loss, the D team “was much more aggressive” and showed significant improvement over its first outing, said Coach Tate Carney.
The A, B and C squads went a combined 1-2 Saturday in Powell, with the B team notching the only win, 36-12. Jace Craft led the way, finishing with 14 points.
The A team lost 43-18, but played its best game of the season, according to Carney. He credited Thomas Wilkinson for playing great defense and rebounding well. As a team, the Buffs held Rocky’s top post player to just five points.
“We broke their press well and just missed some open shots that would have kept us in it early,” Carney said. “We are hoping to build on this as the season progresses.
The C team fell behind 10-2 early, clawed its way back to within two, but could get no closer, losing 26-22. The Grizzlies used a couple big 3-pointers in the third quarter to turn back the Greybull rally.
The Buffs will be on the road this week, with A and C games in Shoshoni Friday and A and B games at Wind River Saturday.
