Greybull Middle School athletes won two relays, set several PRs and added five new Best of the Best qualifications last weekend in Shoshoni.
The meet was larger than anticipated, attracting close to 20 teams including a number of 3A schools.
“It was good to see some other competition that challenged our athletes,” said Coach Becky Echelberger. “With that came personal records for many on our team.”
Greybull’s wins came in the relays.
Cody Myer, Cruz Sorenson, Xavier VanderPloeg and Riley Wiggins teamed up to win the 1,600-meter relay.
Josey Whaley, Amelia Emmett, Julie Garcia and Lydia Rios took top honors in the 400-meter relay.
Adeline Kunkel, Lovely Araiza, Reagan Vigil and Ashley Chacon cruised to victory in the 800-meter sprint medley relay.
The new Best of the Best qualifiers included Avery Allen in the triple jump, Caitlyn Hunt and Ashlyn Chacon in the 100-meter hurdles, Riley Wiggins in the 400 and the 800 and Angelo Aguilar in the 800.  That makes 12 for GMS.
The team will compete in Red Lodge on Friday and Burlington on Saturday. They will be the final two preps for the conference meet the following weekend at Rocky Mountain. “I am looking for our athletes to keep working on specific techniques that we practice throughout the events, and use that to set  PR’s and add a  few more qualifiers,” said Eichelberger. “There are some that are on the cusp of qualifying, hopefully they can get it done this weekend.”
