GMS takes third at conference net tourney
GMS’s A team brought home a third-place finish from their conference tournament in Riverside on Saturday.
“It was such a great weekend of volleyball for all our teams,” Coach Becky Eichelberger reported.
The A team started the competition strong with a 25-20, 25-18 win over Rocky Mountain, sending them on to play some tough competition in the Burlington Huskies. After a struggle in the first set, 7-25, the Buffs came back to win the second 25-19.
“Into the third, both teams were strong at the net, the score went back and forth, but unfortunately, Burlington was able to get to 15 points before we could,” Eichelberger said. The match ended 11-15. “It was a hard-fought game to the end; the girls worked hard for each point.”
In the competition for third place, Greybull faced Thermopolis, a team that downed the Buffs twice in the regular season.
“We kept our composure throughout each point, with girls getting aces, kills from our hitters, and some beautiful blocks that gave us the momentum to come out with the win. I couldn’t be more proud of how these girls made adjustments and didn’t let a few points through them off their game,” Eichelberger said.
The Buffs ended their season with a two-set win, 25-20, 25-19.
The B and C teams travelled to Shoshoni for their final jamboree. The B team played Burlington, 11-25, 15-25, and Riverside, 17-25, 19-25, suffering two hard losses. The C team split, besting the Riverside Rebels in three sets, 25-9, 23-25, 15-7, and falling to Thermopolis, 23-25, 18-25.
Eichelberger reported a fun end to her first season as head coach.
“All the girls showed so much growth in their skills and how they played together as a team. At times the score wasn’t in our favor, but that didn’t stop us from keeping our spirits high and putting our best effort on the court for every game,” she said.
