Greybull A team wins two at conference tournament
Greybull Middle School’s girls basketball A team went 2-1 at the Big Horn County Tournament this weekend.
“I was most proud of our defense throughout all three games,” Coach Becky Eichelberger said.
The tournament started out rocky against Rocky, with Greybull scoring only three points in the first half off free throws. The Buffs fell 34-5 on the Griz’s home court.
“We regrouped after that first game and had a much more productive second and third game of the tournament. We were able to press both teams, make important defensive stops and transition that into more scoring opportunities,” Eichelberger said.
Greybull bounced back strong, with a 36-12 win over Riverside and 32-14 win over Ten Sleep, ending the season on a positive note. Scoring was led by Norah Thur and Peytin Cervantes against Riverside with seven points each; with Josey Whaley notching 10 against Ten Sleep.
The B/C crew sent two teams to the Burlington Jamboree. They had a tough go, losing all three matches: 18-3 Rocky, 42-13 Burlington and 49-7 Thermopolis. Coach Tami Wright amounted the losses to a lack of shooting, overall.
“I felt like the girls played really good defense in one game and the other games our offense was good. We just could not get both of those pieces into the same game,” Wright said. “I was happy with the improvement that the girls as a whole made throughout the season. It was a fun group of girls to coach.”
