Indoor track season ends

In the race for a trophy, the Worland Warriors had to coax every point they possibly could out of the athletes they took to last weekend’s State Indoor Track and Field Championships in Gillette.

They achieved that goal — but it may not have been possible without the contributions of a pair of dynamic Greybull High School freshmen in Adeline Kunkel and Addison Coscarelli.

Kunkel and Coscarelli ran legs on Worland’s 1,600-meter relay team which placed sixth in a time of 4:38.36.  That was worth three points for the Warriors.

Kunkel also ran on Worland’s 1,600-meter sprint medley team which placed eighth, good for another team point.  Their foursome finished in a time of 5:08.48.

Every point mattered in the team standings.

When the dust settled, Cody was on top with 118.5 points, followed by Torrington with 81.  Worland was next with 66.5 points, three clear of fourth-place Buffalo with 63.5.

Kunkel and Coscarelli also competed in individual events.  Kunkel went 27 9 1/2 in the triple jump, good for 21st place.  Coscarelli ran an 8:51 in the 55, placing 30th.
