It’s a busy month at the library
We are moving along quickly through this month. We had a good kickoff activity for our Summer Reading Program with guest reader Patsy King reading the book, “Splatter,” by Diane Alber. After the story, we took the activity outdoors where everyone had the opportunity to tie-dye a cloth book bag. Later that afternoon, we had a stained-glass workshop for the adults. Cindy Powers instructed a group in the art of assembling the pieces of colored glass in a stained-glass kit; they made some amazing creations.
On Monday, June 9, for the older groups in our Summer Reading Program, we enjoyed the creative antics and drawings of Jerry Moffitt from “Do Art Productions.” He taught the kids about creativity and cartoons.
Then on Thursday, June 12, for our younger group, we had a Teddy Bear Workshop with kits from the “Noah’s Ark Animal Workshop.” Our guest reader for this event was Diane Kirby reading “Bear Sees Colors” by Karma Wilson and “Teddy Bear Picnic’ by Jimmy Kennedy. Afterwards, kits were handed out and the “stuffing did fly” as everyone took to stuffing their own teddy bear. We even ended up with a new library mascot, Dewey DeciBEAR, the Greybull LiBEARian.”
On Wednesday, June 18, our guest reader will be Shaylah Spragg reading “Scribble Stones” by Diane Alber. For the activity, we will do rock water marbling. That evening, we will also have a sip-n-paint with instructor Deanna Skillman. Then Summer Reading Program will be winding down, but there is still time to read and put in your entries for the prizes which will be drawn during our final week on June 25. For our final activity, in celebration of the Summer Reading theme of “Color Our World,” everyone will have the chance to paint a section of canvas for a mural to put up on one of the walls in the library.
A big thank you to all who have helped with our Summer Reading Program. We appreciate all you do. We also want to acknowledge and thank the Big Horn County Library Foundation for their help in funding some of our activities as well as the Wyoming Arts Council for their help in funding some of our arts and craft supplies. And last, but definitely not the least, thank you to The Friends of the Greybull Library for your continued support wherever and whenever it is needed.
We hope everyone is having an enjoyable summer. And as you scramble to go and do and see all the sights and action this summer, we hope you will continue to add color to your life through some of the amazing books you read.
