“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.” – John Lubbock

Summer is winding down, the county fair is in full swing and in a couple of weeks school will begin. Time seems to be flying by far too fast.

The August Shell Valley Women’s Coffee will be held at the home of Michelle Umland and co-hosted by Sherie Barber.  Michelle’s address is 1366 Highway 14 (the former Mezzerli property).  Watch for the green men out at the highway entrance to greet you!   Joel Jackson, CEO of Three Rivers Health, will stop by to update us on the hospital and home health care.  If you have questions or suggestions, the coffee would be a good time to address them. This month the gathering will start promptly at 9:30 a.m., allowing Joel to return to the hospital in a timely manner. This is a great opportunity to get together with our friends and neighbors and catch up on our summer goings-on. Please bring a friend with you. Hope to see you there.

The Shell Valley Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary members are selling tickets for their 50/50 Raffle. If you haven’t purchased a ticket yet, there is still time to buy one. Last year the winner received $8,000, and the fire department received the same amount.  All proceeds go to pay for needed maintenance to keep them going.

It’ s not too early to think about items you might want to donate to the fire department’s annual online auction held in November.  If you have something to add to the fundraiser, call or text me at 307-431-6471.

Mark your calendars so you don’t miss Veda Gerrard’s 90th birthday bash at the Shell Community Hall on Saturday, Aug. 30. The time will be announced at a later date.

The Historic Red Shell School is being restored and the board of directors has some great events planned in the coming months. If you or someone you know attended the school, the board is compiling a list of attendees and would love to visit with them about their time spent there.  You can contact Carla Mowell at 307-765-2164 or email her at Carla.mowell@gmail.com

Don’t forget to stop by the Big Horn County Fair in Basin this weekend to show your support for all the 4-H, FFA and other participants.

If you have an event or news you would like to have in the Shell News, please contact me at 307-431-6471. Leave me a voicemail or send a text and I’ll get right back to you.

Enjoy these last lazy days of summer.
