JV boys notch easy wins
Like the varsity, the Greybull Buff JV earned a weekend sweep. But that’s where the similarities ended.
The younger squad did not require a last-second shot or a furious fourth-quarter comeback, dominating Shoshoni 62-28 in a Friday afternoon home game and Tongue River 64-41 Saturday in Dayton.
Larry Longshore and Clayton Didrickson led the way with 15 and 11, respectively, in the win over Shoshoni. Rex Cooper added nine points and a team-high six boards.
An entirely different trio stepped up in Dayton, where William Harlow pumped in 16, Anthony Chacon tallied 10 to go with five boards and Aaron Corral was credited with eight.
Coach James Armel credited his team the way it implemented its pressure defense and communicated on the floor. “We were working to get to the next play quicker and respond to the speed of the game and change of possessions,” he said. “In both games, the JV boys did a good job of getting to the next play, even after making a mistake.
“It was exciting to see them come together and get a couple of wins, which fed into the positive feeling that the varsity had.”
The coach added that he saw improvement from William Harlow, “who simplified his offensive game from Friday’s game to Saturday’s game and saw great success,” and Anthony Chacon, who “did a good job of stepping into a bigger role with Cord Edeler out of town last weekend.”
