JV boys split at Foothills
It was an unusual December for Greybull’s junior varsity boys basketball team, which played as many two-quarter games as regulation games due to some of their opponents’ low numbers.
Coach James Armel said the core of this year’s team includes juniors Cash Hoflund, Rex Cooper and Gatlin Gorski, sophomores Clayton Didrickson, Anthony Chacon, Landen Craft, Cord Edeler and Larry Longshore and freshmen Aaron Corral, William Harlow and Jordi Araiza.
In two-quarter games, the Buffs won one and lost one against Wright and lost to Glenrock, all of them during the opening weekend of the season.
The first full game Dec. 13 against Sundance ended with the Buffs on top, 54-48. Cooper led the way with 20, followed by Edeler with 10 and Chacon seven.
At the Foothills Classic, the JV lost to the Fort Washakie varsity, 45-23, on Dec. 20. Chacon and Corral led with seven points apiece. Rex Cooper added six more to go along with a team-high seven boards.
The next morning, the JV used a late rally to go erase a one-point Eagle lead, at 23-22, and turn it into a 39-21 win. Edeler paced the Buffs with 11 points and six rebounds, Corral added 10 points and Chacon was credited with a team-high five steals.
