Lady Buff JV erupts for 57 points
A three-point loss at Rocky Mountain and a double-digit win over Wind River highlighted the penultimate weekend of the regular season for the Greybull Lady Buff JV squad.
Coach Nate Boyer loved his team’s performance Friday night in Cowley despite it being on the short end of a 37-34 decision. He knew it would be a challenge because Rocky Mountain is fundamentally sound.
“This was the best we played these girls this season and it happened to be on their court,” he said. “We didn’t get the win, but it was fun to see the girls maintain composure during the final seconds of the game.”
Freshman Marlee Henson led the way with 13, followed by sophomore Shayne Cheatham with nine.
The JV salvaged a weekend split with a 57-19 win over Wind River Saturday in Greybull. Boyer called it “a team effort from start to finish.” The stats confirmed it as every player but one scored, with Henson ahead topping all scorers with 16, sophomore Camila Acuna tallying 15 and sophomore Jasmine Rodriguez chipping in 13.
“Coming off the close loss to Rocky, the girls were eager to play their game for 32 minutes,” said Boyer. “We spend a lot of time during the week adapting plays to give the girls different options to work with during game time. It was clear during this game that the girls were paying attention during the week. Our passes were crisp and we played with our heads up the entire game.”
