Lady Buff JV improves to 5-3

Junior Mya Oatman scored six and sophomores Camila Acuna and Shayne Cheatham each chipped in five to lead the Greybull  Lady Buff junior varsity team to a 28-16 win over St. Stephens in a two-quarter game played Saturday afternoon.
“It’s tough to get going in a two-quarter game, but we saw a lot of growth with our underclassmen,” said Nathan Boyer, the team’s coach. “The plays are starting to stick and we were able to produce some scoring off the transition.”
Boyer said Oatman and Acuna scored most of their points in the paint, applying what they’ve learned in practice about being more physical and going up strong after collecting offensive rebounds.
The win followed on the heels of a 56-46 loss to Wyoming Indian Friday night. Oatman and Acuna scored 12 and 10 respectively and sophomore Jasmine Rodriguez chipped in another nine points.
“Wyoming Indian has a lot of talent but our girls came a long way offensively since the first time we played (at the Foothills Classic in December),” said Boyer. “We went hard defensively considering the number of injuries we have accumulated through the first half of the year.”
With the weekend split, the JV girls ran their record to 5-3.
