The Lady Buff JV team split with Rocky Mountain and Thermopolis in games played last weekend.

In Friday›s victory over the Grizzlies, sophomore Marlee Hensen led the offensive charge with 15 points with freshman Caitlyn Hunt in double digits with 10.

Coach Nathaniel Boyer said this was the second time the Buffs had played Rocky this season. “This time we did a great job boxing out on rebounds, which wasn’t the case in our prior meeting.”

According to the coach, “In every game we are seeing more of our girls finding scoring opportunities whether it›s cutting hard to the basket or getting it out to our wings for a quick jumper.”

The Lady Bobcats proved to be a much tougher opponent Saturday and the young Buffs lost the battle, 41-24. Wyatt Whaley led the offense with 10 points.

“This game came down to the ability to break a press and have  a consistent flow to our offense which is where we struggled,” according to Boyer.

Boyer praised  his sophomores for stepping up defensively in their rebounding “when we needed them to. Sophomore Wyatt Whaey was a big presence under the basket on both ends of the court. Marlee Hensen was a big help moving the ball up court against the press.”

The JV Buffs will host Shoshoni in a conference game Friday night; Saturday they cross the mountains to play an early afternoon game with the Tongue River JV.
