Lady Buff JV splits weekend contests

After crushing Wind River in two quarters on Friday, Greybull’s JV girls basketball team saw a tough competitor in Wyoming Indian Saturday, the back-and-forth game resulting in a 48-41 loss.

Greybull came out strong on defense, building an early lead, and the Buffs were up by one at halftime, 19-18. In the third quarter, the Buffs struggled on offense and the Lady Chiefs took advantage.

“[Wyoming Indian is] a tough, well-coached team that competes hard for all four quarters,” Coach Nate Boyer noted. The Buffs were down 38-29 by the end of the third but were able to step on the gas and cut the deficit down to seven by the last buzzer.

Caitlyn Hunt led the way for Greybull with 14 points, followed by Fallon Hoffman with nine and Ella Keisel with eight.

“Because of our numbers, we’re using a few swing players. That can make things challenging at times, but it’s been really good for our younger players to get more minutes,” Boyer said. “They’re gaining valuable experience by playing in both games, and that growth is showing.”

Up next, the Buffs will be on the road for the Big Horn Basin Classic on Friday. JV plays Powell at noon in the auxiliary gym at Powell High School with varsity following at 1:30 p.m. in the main gym. JV then takes on Lovell in the auxiliary at 3 p.m., with the varsity game in the main gym at 4:30 p.m.

Saturday, the varsity will have a 9:30 a.m. match against Burlington in Powell’s main gym before hopping the bus to Rocky Mountain High School in Cowley, with varsity to take on Worland at 12:30 p.m. in the main gym and JV to follow in the auxiliary at 2 p.m.
