Letter to the Editor: Will we see any accountability after assassination attempt?
Dear editor:
It’s kind of crazy to me that a 20-year-old (allegedly) nearly overthrew the United States of America over the weekend. Please let me know if this statement is hyperbole in any way. You can ascertain for yourselves the reasons for this. Arguably, only God saved Donald J. Trump from a fatal head shot on Saturday at 6:11 p.m., while it can’t be minimized that this violent act did result in the fatality of a family man in the crowd.
I will just point out that the person leading the United States Secret Service, tasked with protecting our presidential elected leaders and nominees, is Kimberley Cheatle, appointed by Joe Biden in September of 2022. The U.S. Secret Service in turn reports to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, headed by Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Secretary Mayorkas was impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives for undermining the rule of law and his statutory responsibility, but the articles of impeachment were dismissed by the Democrat-controlled U.S. Senate.
I wonder if we will see any accountability, or if these “24” show style of events will continue to occur during 2024 with just over 100 days leading up to a historic election.
