Organization collecting quilts, blankets for people of Ukraine, Turkey, Syria, Israel

LDS churches in the Big Horn Basin will serve as drop-off locations early next month for anyone wishing to donate new and clean, gently used quilts and blankets to the Wrap the World with Quilts organization.
The non-denominational non-profit is gathering the quilts to send to Ukrainian refugees and those affected by earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.  It’s also trying to establish connections to send quilts to people in Israel.
Donations can be dropped off Saturday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 9, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the LDS churches in Ten Sleep (2760 U.S. Highway 16), Thermopolis (625 S. 10th St.), Worland (500 Sagebrush Dr.), Basin/Greybull (400 U.S. Highway 20 S), Powell (1026 Avenue E), Cody (1407 13th St.) and Burlington (114 Cedar Ave.).  The collection hours in Lovell (50 W. Main St.) and Cowley (52 Main St.) are from 10 a.m. to noon.
The original goal was 1,000, but if every household in the Big Horn Basin were to donate just one, the effort would far exceed that total.  This organization says, “We need all sizes of new quilts and blankets.  They can be traditionally quilted, tied, fleece, flannel, knitted or crocheted.”
Quilts can be registered on the Wrap the World with Quilts website (www.wraptheworldwithquilts.com), designated where to go (one of the options is “wherever it is needed most”), and a personal note typed with a bar code printed and attached which will allow the recipient to connect with the donor via email.
The donation can be anonymous, too.  In that case, it’s not necessary to register the quilt.
