Ready for ‘no news is good news’ cycle

I am ready for the “no news is good news” cycle to begin.
For the past two weeks, we have been inundated with bad news: the attempted assassination of former president Donald Trump, the unimpressive direction/security offered Trump at the rally that fateful Saturday night, and then 10 days later, that same director having no answers as to how, when, why the surveillance, the protection, went so awry. That said, I was listening Monday morning when she appeared before Congress and said the public “might” gets answers in six months or so.
Then there was the unexpected and yet not unexpected news that President Biden was withdrawing from the 2024 presidential race.
The assassination attempt was especially horrific.
I can remember very clearly where I was, who I was with, when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. It seemed as if the world stopped.  I remember the attempted assassination of President Ronald Reagan and the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Bobby Kennedy.
It is reprehensible what is happening in our country today.  When the rhetoric gets so...well, mean and nasty.  The hatred we hear from the mouths of those people we grew up believing that we should respect our leaders. We are taught to look for the good in our neighbors. Then we grow up.
There is a song, a favorite of mine, that says, “Let there be peace on earth...and let it begin with me.” Words to aspire to live by.

And the outrage of the week has to be the talk show panel member who said of Trump’s remark that he was alive because God was looking after him, or words to that effect. This “learned” woman said, “That was such an un-Christian thing to say.”
I would have laughed, but it was such a stupid thing to say.
Don’t like that word, but no other word describes it.
Now I’ll get off my soapbox and get to work.
