Red Shell School board discusses progress, elects members

A small group gathered on the lawn of the Historic Red Shell School Wednesday, Sept. 4 for the annual meeting, when board members reviewed the past year’s accomplishments and answered questions from community members.
During the year, the board added a much-needed entry porch, handicap access at the back door, and spray foam insulation around the plumbing and building ringwall. They also added metal landscape borders and a gravel path to the school.
The non-profit organization is in good standing and has no debts, thanks to donations from past and present community members.
Upcoming projects include a play area for children, restoring the structural integrity of the belfry and getting the bell ready to ring again. The board also hired an arborist to evaluate the over 100-year-old cottonwood tree to maintain its health.
