Senior Mataia Henderson and sophomore Perla Rodriguez of the Greybull Lady Buffs have been named to the Class 2A all-Northwest Conference team. Rodriguez also made the all-West Region team.
The release of the all-conference, all-region and all-state lists followed last weekend’s state tournament, which ended with Tongue River topping Wyoming Indian in the 2A championship game.
Greybull Coach Jeff Hunt said both Henderson and Rodriguez were worthy of the recognition.
“Mataia ended her high school career the way every senior dreams of - by playing her best basketball,” he said “The senior had a fantastic regional tournament, and her percentage from beyond the arc was unbelievable during the tournament in Riverton.
“In the second game, a win over Kemmerer, she hit three 3’s in the first quarter, and four more in the game, ending 7 for 11. Mataia was almost unstoppable. Her talent goes beyond her shooting skill and speak wonders of her dedication to the game. She will be leaving big shoes to fill.”
Perla was — and will continue to be — a big cog on the team. “She was a threat both offensively and defensively and was hard to defend, as was evidenced by her stats game after game,” said Hunt.
Joining Henderson and Rodriguez on the all-conference team were Lauren Bassett, Brittly Boetcher, Keylee Christiansen, Tarynn Schoening and Shelby Wambeke of Rocky Mountain; Kaylor McConnaughey of Shoshoni, and Kamryn Farrell, Hanna Hill, Jayssie Owsley and Austin Slagle of Thermopolis.
