Seventh-grade boys repeat as conference champs

Riley Wiggins, Cruz Sorenson, Triston Gross and Liam Wisehart combined to win six individual events, leading Greybull Middle School’s seventh-grade boys to the Big Horn Conference track and field championship Saturday in Cowley.
Wiggins dominated the middle-distance races, winning the 400, the 800 and the 1,600 meter, while Sorenson captured first in the shot put and discus, Gross took the 100-meter hurdles and Wisehart the 200-meter hurdles.
The seventh-grade boys also won all three relay races en route to the convincing win, their second straight.  The young Buffs earned 200 points, easily outpacing second-place Rocky Mountain with 113.
Greybull’s other individual conference champions included eighth graders Adeline Kunkel (200 and 400 meters), Caitlyn Hunt (100-meter hurdles) and Angela Myers (100 meters) along with seventh grader Josey Whaley (shot put).
GMS once again excelled in the relays, winning six of the 12 races across the four divisions.
“Our team represented our program so well at conference,” said Coach Becky Eichelberger. “As a team, we talked about how each individual performance plays a role in our overall team standings.
“It was great to see them come in and finish at their best.”
Best of the Best
Twenty-seven athletes from GMS qualified for the Best of the Best competition Tuesday in Lander.
