South Big Horn County residents don't have to wait until Oct. 31 to celebrate Halloween

The spooky season begins this weekend with several special events and gathers steam early next week in the annual build-up to all the costume-wearing, trick-or-treating family fun associated with the final day of October. Here’s a rundown of the events that had been shared with the newspaper as of Monday. Friday, Oct. 24

• Halloween craft activity, 1 to 2 p.m., Greybull Public Library. For kids in grades K-5. $2 fee.

Saturday, Oct. 25

• Saam Vet Clinic is holding its annual pet costume contest and bake sale, starting at 10 a.m.

• Medicine Lodge is hosting a Halloween event with pumpkin carving, games and a trunk-or-treat from 4 to 6 p.m.  A haunted hike follows at 7 p.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 28

• The Wyoming Retirement Center is hosting a Halloween Carnival from 6 to 8 p.m.  $5 fee for unlimited games.  Hot dog meals and caramel apples may be purchased for $5.

• A Fall Musical Spooktacular is planned at 6:30 p.m. at the Burlington school.

Thursday, Oct. 30

• Children’s Resource Center students will be trick-or-treating in downtown Basin from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and from 1:30 to 2 p.m.

• Basin City Arts Center is hosting a Halloween tablescape exhibit from 5 to 7 p.m. Come browse or enter your own.  For info, contact Victoria, 272-6747.

Friday, Oct. 31

• Fall Festival, 8 a.m. to noon, at the Buffalo Ranch northeast of Greybull. Kids are encouraged to wear their costumes.  Prizes will be awarded to most creative, scary and funny.  Grades K-2 from 8:30-9:30 a.m.; grades 3-5 from 9:30-10:30 a.m., middle schoolers from 10:30-11:30 a.m. 

• Greybull Elementary School Trunk-or-Treat, with Halloween parade to begin at 10:30 a.m.

• Greybull Main Street Trick or Treat, 4:30 to 6 p.m., downtown Greybull.  Businesses will be handing out candy.  Individuals who would like to bring pre-packaged treats to hand out are welcome, as well. For info: 765-9575 or greybullrec@gmail.com.

• Costume Skate, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Herb Asp Community Center in Greybull. All ages welcome but under 6 with an adult.  Games, music and kids who wear costumes will be eligible to win prizes. Admission is $3 a person, which includes the skate rental.

• Basin Rec Trunk-or-Treat, 6 to 8 p.m., Basin Town Hall parking lot.
