Mother calls it ‘a really cool way to introduce young ones to actual business’

Some kids have a lemonade stand for a summer gig. The Hunt girls, however, have invested in something a little more explosive.

Shelby, 15, and Joslyn, 12, with the help of parents Georgia and Nate Hunt, have opened their very own fireworks stand at Davies Machine Shop on Greybull River Road. Through a partnership with Western Pyro Enterprises in Powell, the family was provided with a stand and the fireworks in exchange for consignment sales.

“We thought it was a really cool way to introduce young ones to actual business,” Georgia said.

The girls have been organizing their stock, keeping the cash and working on their customer service.

“[We’re] talking to them about what each firework does or asking them what audience the fireworks will be for, like little kids or high schoolers,” Joslyn said. She also draws business by waving a massive “FIREWORKS” flag to passersby on U.S. Highway 16/20.

They do still have to pay back sales tax, LLC fees, rent and an AC unit, which is helping with the summer heat; all part of their business education. The money they make will largely go into their savings, they reported.

“Probably for college,” Shelby said.

Business has been a little slow, but the Hunts are expecting a big turnout in the days before the Fourth of July. Their hours will expand from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily to 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The kids haven’t got a chance to test their wares yet, but Georgia said she expected some of their stock would make it back to their house for the Fourth.

“I have no doubt. You know my husband and his brother,” she laughed.
