Third year brings tweaks to Christmas in the Park

Several new features have been added to Greybull’s Christmas in the Park exhibit which can be viewed by passersby every night during the month of December.

Ashley Coenen, the driving force behind it, originally found the inspiration in a Festival of Lights Gillette, where she lived for a time. After she move here, she asked the town administrator (and her sister) Carrie Hunt if she could try to recreate it. She got the green light and began soliciting donations.

Setup of the display began on last Wednesday and continued Saturday and Sunday and Coenen said she was assisted by Jeff and Carrie Hunt, their son Caden and daughter Caitlyn; her father Roger Henderson; her nephew Hyson Hill and her husband Zack (who is the creator of the displays made of rebar).

It went live on Sunday, Dec. 1 and will continue through Dec. 31.

“We’ve had quite a few people tell us they enjoy it and that they’re happy to see lights in the park,” said Coenen.  She has no plans of slowing down, saying she intends to tweak it ever year.

“I figure it’s a good way to cheer up the kids, who love seeing the lights,” she said. ‘And neighborhoods around town don’t get decorated as much they used to.”

There is musical component to go along with the lights.  If you’re in your vehicle, tune to 95.5 FM for the full Christmas in the Park experience.

This year’s sponsors include Black Dog Construction, Winkler Mobile Repair, The Greek Station, Midway Auto Sales-Cody, Smokehouse Saloon, A&C Motors, Bonnie & Dale Stauffacher, Big Horn Co-op, Ram’s Head Financial and Ken and Kathy Jensen.
