Pickleball court to be included in design along with basketball, tennis and volleyball courts

The Town of Greybull has secured a 50/50 grant that will allow it to proceed with improvements to its aging tennis and basketball courts located between the senior center and the elementary school.

Going out with a grant-writing win in her final month on the job, Administrator/Finance Director Carrie Hunt told town council members Monday that the State Parks and Cultural Resources Commission had approved the town’s Land and Water Conservation Fund request of $209,436.20.

The town will be required to match the grant dollar for dollar, creating a pot of $418,872.40 to make the necessary improvements to the courts.  The town plans to replace the surface and create a new set of multipurpose courts.

Right now, one side is a basketball court, the other a tennis/volleyball court. The new setup will not only carve out space for those sports, but also pickleball which is growing in popularity across the United States.

Hunt told the council that because it’s a federal grant, the town won’t receive the money until the end of this year.  Given that, the best-case scenario would be for the new courts to be ready for use by the spring of 2026.
