The Greybull Buff JV went 1-2 at last weekend’s Big Horn Basin Classic in Cowley. Like the varsity, the squad salvaged a win its final game, knocking off Riverside 53-19 after opening the tournament with losses to Lovell, 45-38, and Wyoming Indian, 52-41.

Coach James Armel said the quality competition brought out the best in his team.

“Three players, in particular, stepped into bigger roles and did a good job,” Armel said.  “Rex Cooper (a junior) was was challenged to play more minutes and anchor the team. He stepped up and was able to bring stability to the lineup.

“Clayton Didrickson (a sophomore) has provided a spark to the team and is a relentless rebounder. His effort can change the direction of a game and the other players feed off of his success.

“Aaron Corral (a freshman) has shown an ability to handle the pressure of point guard duties. He has also proven that he is willing to be coached and will put effort into the offense and defense the JV is running.”

The leading scorers in the loss to Lovell were Aaron Corral with 10 and Anthony Chacon and Cooper with eight apiece.

Cooper paced the Buffs against the Chiefs with 12 points, seven boards and four steals.
