Trump administration critic was wrong on every point
Dear editor:
On Feb. 27, you published a letter that accused the Trump administration of numerous wrongs. The author was incorrect on every point.
The accusations were:
1) Higher taxes for middle class families and decreases for the richest Americans.
The truth is those taxes were reduced during President Trump’s first term. As a percentage of income, the reduced taxes benefited lower income taxpayers more than those with higher incomes. Those rates expire this year and the Trump policy is to extend them. If not, all taxpayers will have higher taxes this year. The rich can afford it, but the poor will suffer the highest increase they have ever had.
2) Removing overtime pay.
No. It’s actually removing the tax on overtime pay and tip income. This helps lower income families. Very few rich people work for an hourly wage or for tips.
3) Shrinking support programs such as Social Security, Medicare, etc.
There is no plan to reduce benefits for eligible people. California has been wasting Medicaid funds on music lessons. There are millions of people on support programs who are over 120 years old. Many are over 200 years old. Unauthorized programs and payments to dead people need to be stopped to preserve those trust funds for those who need them.
4) Criminalizing reproductive care.
Abortion is taking the life of an innocent child — not reproductive care. The Supreme Court ruled the issue should be decided by the states. Margaret Sanger started Planned Parenthood as genocide to eliminate the black race. Most abortion clinics are still located in black and brown neighborhoods. Abortion is the leading cause of death in America.
5) Mass deportations.
No one is going to deport Americans. America has laws requiring the deportation of illegal aliens. President Biden violated the law when he failed to deport them.
6) Restricting voter access.
Most states have laws that make it easier to acquire ID for the purpose of voting than for any other purpose, such as opening a bank account, purchasing tobacco or alcohol, boarding an airplane, or entering a federal building. No one been able to find a citizen who does not have an ID for voting. The only voter access being denied is access by non-citizens and dead people.
7) Centralization of presidential powers.
Our Constitution declares: The executive power shall be vested in a President. It also states that all legislative power shall be vested in a Congress. There is no provision for bureaucrats to make laws or spend money that was not appropriated by Congress. Bureaucrats are out of control to the tune of hundreds of billion dollars of misspent money. When Stacey Abrams voiced support for Biden’s second term, those bureaucrats gave her two billion dollars of taxpayer money. This happens over and over. Democrats are in control of the bureaucrats who secretly hand them money for their pet projects, their campaign coffers, or their own pockets. When they say they are afraid of losing “our democracy” they really mean “our bureaucracy.”
