Greybull Middle School’s eighth grade team went 2-2 and placed fourth last weekend at its conference tournament in Thermopolis.

The young Buffs easily dispatched Ten Sleep, 61-8, in their opener, but lost in the semis to the eventual tournament champion Burlington by a 36-25 score. “It was close the whole game” before the Huskies pulled away at the end, said Coach Cadance Wipplinger.

The Buffs followed that up with a 30-15 win over Burlington before dropping the third-place game to Shoshoni, 47-26. “We were leading 11-7 at the end of the first quarter and then didn’t score in the second quarter because shots didn’t fall and we struggled against their press,” said Wipplinger. “I was proud of the boys because they grew over the season.”

The eighth-grade team finished with a record of 10-6.

The sixth and seventh graders “also showed great growth” during the season, winning two of three games at a jamboree last weekend.
