Greybull Middle School’s A team saw its winning streak end Saturday morning in Cowley, where the young and banged-up Buffs were blanked 32-0.

Coach Logan Burningham said his team was slowed by injuries, as four starters did not play and a couple more were lost during the contest. With the win, the Griz avenged an early 39-12 loss.

“We have been short on depth and it got us in this game,” said Burningham. “The great part about it was players who haven’t played much got a lot of time and opportunity to prove themselves in a cold, physical game.

“We came away with a couple main points that we have to build up our toughness level with this group as a lot of players have gotten hurt this season or actually injured.

“We also need to build up our second and third strings to help with this problem as well. We don’t want to be fully reliant on Siul Valadez and Colt Collingwood on offense. As coaches, we probably didn’t make enough adjustments to make our players successful.”

B team loses 14-0

Aside from a few big plays supplied by Jesse Craft and Alex Chacon in the passing game, the B team was also held in check by the Grizzlies, losing 14-0.

“With both games it came down to winning up front on the line of scrimmage and we got destroyed there,” Burningham said. “We were not able to keep drives going on a cold and wet day and Rocky had  some big plays as well.

“We had a few swing players that only played up in the A game and when this group gets all together they will make a solid group!”

This week

The Buffs play their final games of the season Saturday in Shoshoni. The A game starts at 10 a.m. and the two-quarter B game at 11:30 a.m.
