Roy Mackey

Roy Mackey of Shell passed away peacefully on Sept. 20, 2023. 

Roy was born in Bradford, Pa., on June 24, 1956, and grew up with a love of hunting and fly-fishing. He graduated from Bradford High School in 1974. He moved with his family to Bozeman in 1987 and then to his current home in Shell in 1993. 

Roy was a true artisan Western hatmaker. He crafted his customers’ hats in his garage workshop in Shell, and these hats are cherished by their owners around the world. People who own a Mackey hat know the quality, customer service and distinctive touch that Roy put into each hat he made. They are not only good-looking hats but stand up to all conditions thrown at them.

Sept. 24, 1954 - Sept. 30, 2023

Jeri Lee Cooper, 69, of Basin, Wyo., was called home to her Lord and Savior Sept. 30. 

She was born in Scobey, Mont., Sept. 24, 1954, to Magne and Almareta Hammar. Scobey, Mont., was home to Jeri until she graduated from Scobey High School in 1972. She attended Eastern Montana College (now Montana State University) in Billings, Mont., majoring in physical education and health, with a minor in accounting. After receiving her degree, she moved to the Big Horn Basin where she found her permanent home and began her career as a teacher and swim coach in Greybull, Wyo. 

Greybull is where she met the love of her life, David Cooper. The two were married in July of ‘78 and spent 45 years building a lifetime of wonderful memories together. Dave and Jeri made their home in Basin and raised their family there. 

Clarence Leonard Werbelow

July 1, 1936 - Sept. 23, 2023

Clarence Leonard Werbelow, 87, died Sept. 23, 2023, in Cody, Wyo. He was born July 1, 1936, in Emblem, Wyo., to Martin and Ella (Blank) Werbelow. He lived in Powell, Heart Mountain, Emblem and San Jose, Calif., but retired in Powell. 

Clarence married Barbara Lee Jacobs on Nov. 3, 1957, in Powell. He was a member of the Lutheran church and was a member of the Wyoming Fiddlers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, planting tomatoes, telling jokes, and playing his guitar.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Ella Werbelow; sisters Irma, Gladys, Dori, Evelyn and Mary; and brothers Bud, George, Joe, Frank, Smokey and Leroy.

Clarence Werbelow, 87, passed away Sept. 23, 2023 in Cody. Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 6 at the Powell Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Emblem cemetery.

The family of Veda May (Watts) Ilg invites you to join them for a commemoration of her life at a graveside service Friday, Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. at Mount View Cemetery in Basin.

Veda passed away June 27, 2023.

William and Sylvia Elliott

A memorial service for longtime Greybull residents William and Sylvia Elliott will be held Friday, Sept. 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the north pavilion of the Greybull City Park.

Sylvia died June 19, 2023.

William died Dec. 19, 2020.

James Fredrick Ingalls passed away Sept. 3, 2023, at his home in Oro Valley, Ariz., surrounded by his loving family.  

Verla Kershner

Verla Alice Kershner, 92, passed away on Monday, Sept. 4, 2023, at Absaroka Assisted Living in Cody. Cremation has taken place. 

Graveside services will be held Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Donald Ruhl Cemetery in Greybull.

Mary Beverly Gamble

Nov. 4, 1931 - Aug. 25, 2023

Beverly was born Nov. 4, 1931, to parents Frederick Harry Julian and Ethel Frances Parslow in Kemmerer, Wyo.  Born into a pioneering ranch family, she spent her childhood on the ranch and attended many small county schools.  Later she became an alumnus of the University of Wyoming and was a supporter of many of the university’s activities and events.

Beverly met and married Keith Peter Gamble on May 25, 1952, in Cokeville, Wyo., and they remained married until his death in 2005.  Beverly and Keith had three sons, Ryan, Glen, and Fred.  She was a teacher in various school systems around the state of Wyoming for 23 years.
