Olivia Hernandez, 95, of Lovell passed away on Sept. 30, 2020, at New Horizons Care Center in Lovell. She was born Dec. 31, 1924, in Mercedes, Texas, the daughter of Andres Gonzales and Sara Rubalcoda Gonzales. She had two brothers and four sisters.

Olivia married Erasmo Hernandez on July 4, 1946. They had three children, one son, Eddie Hernandez, of Lovell and two daughters, Maggie Malcom of Lovell and Imelda Florez of Caldwell, Idaho.

Catherine Elizabeth “Betty” Asay, 90, passed away peacefully on Oct. 3, 2020, at the New Horizons Care Center in Lovell. She was born at home on Dec. 3, 1929, in Lovell, the fourth child of John “Jack” Hatch Asay and Evelyn Marie (O’Donnell) Asay. As was the case with all 10 of her siblings and her first two children, the attending physician was ‘Doc’ William Horsley, a dedicated town physician and family friend.

Norma Jeanette Davis Rose, 87, died in the comfort of her home with family by her side Sept. 25, 2020.

Norma was born in Burlington, Wyo., on April 22, 1933, the daughter of Joe and Lottie Davis.  She married Ron Rose Aug. 23, 1958.  Norma and Ron had one child, Ronda. They spent their first years of marriage in Iowa, later residing in Nebraska and Colorado before returning home to Burlington in 1976.

A celebration of the life of Michelle “Shelly” Hayes of Basin will be determined at a later date. Shelly, 75, passed away Sept. 4, in Basin, where she had resided for the past 20 years.

Margaret “Margie” Lee Mayer, 77, passed away at her home in Greybull, Wyo., on Sept. 5, 2020 surrounded by her family.  As per her wishes there will be no formal services.  Cremation has taken place and the family will have a private gathering at a later date.

Emerietta Hanson Martinez

Nov. 30, 1947 – Sept. 10, 2020

Emerietta Hanson Martinez, 72, of Billings passed away Thursday, Sept. 10, 2020, at RiverStone Health Hospice Home in Billings following a courageous two-year cancer battle. 

Emerietta Hanson was born on Nov. 30, 1947, in Greybull, the daughter of James “Emery” Hanson and Edna (Bellamy) Hanson. 

Melvin Thomas Smith

June 15, 1928 – Sept. 5, 2020

Melvin Thomas Smith passed away on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020, at the age of 92, in St. George, Utah. He died peacefully after several years of declining health due to Parkinson’s with his beloved wife, Lorna, close by.

Melvin was born in Cowley on June 15, 1928, to parents Heman and Edetha Smith. He was one of 10 children. Melvin’s grandfather was Samuel Harrison Bailey Smith, the orphaned son of Samuel Harrison Smith, brother to the founder and prophet Joseph Smith of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 

Calvin William Jewell

Sept. 9, 1937 – Sept. 16, 2020

On Sept. 9, 1937, Calvin William Jewell was the second of three sons born to Fleeta Hatch and James William Jewell in Colonia Dublan, Chihuahua, Mexico. He died Sept. 16, 2020.

He spent his childhood in the Mormon colonies until moving as a junior to Phoenix Union High School where he played on the varsity tennis team.

Samuel Patrick “Pat” Rich was born in Powell on March 17, 1972, to S.T. and June Rich and died Sept. 8, 2020. 

Patrick had a large and mischievous personality that drew people in with his smiles and his hugs. Once you met Pat, he considered you a relative, and he often decided you looked like a famous movie star. Pat loved the rodeo and especially the clown Tony Martoglio. Patrick was a huge tease and loved to tickle, throw socks at you or try to wrestle you down. He also loved movies, music and bowling.
