A newscast from the east coast was focused on the drop in reading and math scores following the pandemic. One professional educator said absenteeism was a major problem. She said there were students who were absent over 100 percent of the time.

Guess that’s the “new math.” I always thought 100 percent was “all.”

As I said before, I am still learning amazing things.

The Buffer, an ordinance that affects everyone within 1/2 mile of the boundaries of the Town of Greybull, was read on Monday, Feb. 12 for the first of three readings before becoming law. Technically, all three readings could be accomplished within 30 days. There must be 10 days between readings. Activities on any property within the 1/2 mile, new jurisdiction (N,S,E,W) will be subject to the discretion of the mayor of the Town of Greybull.

Waiting is powerful.  Banns, which gave anyone within hearing the right to state why two named people should not be married, used to be published for about a month followed by a three month waiting period before a wedding could be held.  They say, “Marry in haste repent at leisure.”  When people wanted to divorce in the 1950s, they often had to wait a year without marital relations before divorce could be completed. 

Romans 12:7 reads, “Let him that ministers wait on his ministry.”  

You’re never too old to learn something new. And with all the weather reporting over the past two weeks, I learned about “atmospheric rivers.” The word was used repeatedly during the record rainfall in California. It was disastrous. The death and destruction left in the atmospheric river’s wake is almost unimaginable.
With almost 24-hour constant coverage, reporters were at a loss for words to describe what was happening. Or at a loss for words that weren’t repeated constantly.
One reporter kept mixing up “landslides” and “mudslides.” I figured with the deluge falling, a landslide might have started down the mountain, but by the time it went 50 feet, it was a mudslide. So either word was used correctly.
