Shell Hall gets another boost from Margaritaville

With dozens of great silent auction items to bid on, a taco bar and drinks to enjoy, this year’s Margaritaville fundraiser did not disappoint.
Saturday evening’s event was a fundraiser for the Shell Community Hall, which has hosted gatherings of all types and sizes since its construction in the 1930s.
Mary Whaley, who serves on the hall’s board of directors, said the event went “very well. We had a lot of nice silent auction items ... and a very good turnout.”

Red Shell School board discusses progress, elects members

A small group gathered on the lawn of the Historic Red Shell School Wednesday, Sept. 4 for the annual meeting, when board members reviewed the past year’s accomplishments and answered questions from community members.
During the year, the board added a much-needed entry porch, handicap access at the back door, and spray foam insulation around the plumbing and building ringwall. They also added metal landscape borders and a gravel path to the school.

The title of Mini Elegant Miss and the prestige that comes with it passed from one Stamstad to another at the Wyoming Elegant Miss Scholarship Pageant’s ninth annual state finals held over Labor Day weekend in Casper.
The program hosted girls from birth to 15 years of age and prior experience within the pageant systems isn’t required. Hannah Stamstad was one of five contestants in her division. With it being her pageant debut, her parents, Matt and Lola Stamstad, were not expecting her to win.

County loses fair manager

At the September 9, 2024, County Fair Board meeting, the board was given a resignation letter by Fair Manager Cash Duncan. The resignation is effective Sept. 30, 2024. Duncan has taken a job with the Basin Recreation Department.

Electrical fire leaves Manderson family looking for housing

An electrical fire in an outdoor meter at the Holdsworth home in Manderson “fried” the electrical in their trailer — to the point where Rocky Mountain Power deemed it unlivable.
Dale, Cindy, Tammy, Pamela and Nathan Holdsworth, who were living there at the time, are seeking a mobile home to replace it with hopes it be donated. The best-case scenario would be a three bedroom with two bathrooms.

Prescribed burns planned in Bighorn National Forest

Bighorn National Forest officials are planning several prescribed burns over the next few weeks and months on each district.
The Beaver Creek prescribed burn in the Hunt Mountain Area, is planned to occur in the next few weeks on the Medicine Wheel Ranger District, depending on weather and favorable conditions. This burn is a treatment for livestock allotment management, wildlife habitat improvement, and fuels reduction. For more information, please contact Mark Foster, District Ranger at 307-765-4435.
