Aug 12 — 1:38 a.m.: Officers performed an additional patrol at the Greybull River Park.
8:44 a.m.: Barking dogs were reported on Third Avenue South.
9:21 a.m.: Officers assisted the general public.
11:24 a.m.: Officers initiated a traffic stop in Greybull. A citation was issued.
12:10 p.m.: An ordinance violation was reported on Highway 14.
1:30 p.m.: Cows were out on Main Street.
4:13 p.m.: Officers initiated a traffic stop in Greybull. A citation was issued.

SD#3 welcomes four new teachers

From a personnel standpoint, Big Horn County School District No. 3 begins the year with eight new employees.
The new full-time teachers, who are profiled below, include Patricia Anderson (special education), Brandon Douglas (elementary computer science), Mikelle Gaines (high school language arts) and Holly Thomas (high school science).
The district also hired a new school nurse, Laura Youman, and three new paraprofessionals:  Emily Bottom and Paige Lillard, who will work at the high school, and Rhonda Alford, at the elementary.

Davis receives Eagle Award at Shell Hall ceremony

On Saturday, Aug. 17, Greybull resident Steele Davis, 17, was presented with his Eagle Scout award in front of his family, friends and Boy Scout Troop 312 at a ceremony held at the Shell Community Hall. The Eagle badge is both the highest honor afforded by the Boy Scouts of America [BSA] and the most difficult to achieve. Davis, who has participated in scouts since he was 6 years old, was required to earn 21 merit badges, serve his troop in a leadership role and complete a service project in his community before applying for the award.

Board pleased with fair reviews

Big Horn County Fair Board members Tim Allen, Kelli Mercer, Tracey Haley, Becky Bates discussed the recent fair at their Aug. 8 meeting, where they were joined by fair manager Cash Duncan.
Neither Luke Foss nor Austin Layne was in attendance.
Board members said they’ve received positive reviews of the fair, with most saying it went smoothly. Some examples included cleaner bathrooms, easy animal weigh in and fair employees who were helpful and present.  Security State submitted a letter, praising Duncan.

Agencies snuff out wildland fire above Shell Falls

The Bighorn National Forest is investigating the cause of a wildland fire Friday afternoon above Shell Falls.
Multiple agencies responded to the fire, which started around 1:30 p.m. near mile marker 28 on U.S. Highway 14.
Brent Godfrey, the Big Horn County fire warden, said the fire was contained to 4.4 acres and that no structures were damaged.

Local man shares love of history, archery in new rec district class

A local man is planning to spread his love of archery and history in a six-week class that will run through the Greybull Recreation District.
Garrett Thomas’s class will meet on six consecutive Fridays at the Herb Asp Community Center, starting Sept. 6 and ending Oct. 11.  The per session cost is $8, but for the full effect, Thomas encourages participants to pay the $48 for the full session.  
Archery, after all, isn’t the only thing he’s teaching.

Fall musical auditions next week at GHS
Auditions for the community musical will be held Monday, Aug. 26, Tuesday, Aug. 27, and Thursday, August 29 from 6-8 pm in the Greybull High School auditorium.
Auditions are open house style, so choose the most convenient time during one of the blocks. Please have a short musical selection prepared; readings will be provided.
The performances will be Nov. 21-23.
Sixth graders through adults are welcome to audition.

America’s Best Restaurants to film episode Tuesday at Bob’s

The owners of a popular eatery in downtown Greybull are inviting the public to join them between 9 a.m. and noon Tuesday, Aug. 27 for the filming of an episode of America’s Best Restaurants (ABR).
The mission of ABR is to bring attention to local, independently owned restaurants and it claims on its website to have published 842 episodes in 28 states. Bob’s Diner and Bakery, owned by Robert and Deanna Skillman, will soon join the list.
