Suicide hotline performing well, but faces a fiscal cliff

CASPER—Katrina Ferrell helps people in crisis.
As program coordinator for the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, she assists callers who may be feeling desperate or despondent. The lifeline provides free emotional support and resources day and night.
“I think we make a really big difference in a lot of lives,” she said.
For years, Wyoming has struggled with one of the nation’s worst suicide rates. And for years, it did so without a lifeline staffed by local folks.

Winter coat giveaway is Nov. 10
The Big Horn County Child Protection Team and New Life Church of Powell will hold a winter coat giveaway through the Greybull Foster Closet on Friday, Nov. 10 at 1-5 p.m.
The Greybull closet is located at 1017 N. Seventh Street in Greybull. Free new and gently-used winter clothing will be available for children and adults.

Historic electric rate hike hearing begins this week

A 21.6% electric rate hike request panned by customers and politicians as an unjustified threat to households and the state’s economy will be scrutinized beginning Wednesday at a multi-day, court-like hearing before the Wyoming Public Service Commission.
The high-profile and historic rate hike from Rocky Mountain Power — the largest proposed increase in Wyoming in more than 10 years — would tap some 144,000 households and businesses for an extra annual $140.2 million.

Put on your costume and come down to main street in Greybull for Halloween fun on Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 4:30-6:00 p.m.  Businesses will be handing out candy to trick or treaters and the public is invited to attend.  Individuals who would like to bring pre-packaged treats to hand out are welcome as well.

        Gasoline prices fall 4.8 cents per gallon on average in Wyoming

        Community college tuition freeze approved

LANDER (WNE) — The Wyoming Community College Commission Thursday voted to keep the tuition as it currently stands for the state’s eight community colleges.         Powell man pleads not guilty to wildlife violations

POWELL — A rural Powell resident is facing a stack of criminal charges that allege he committed multiple wildlife-related violations over the past two decades. 

Grant L. Cadwallader, who was born in 1977, is accused of illegally killing two grizzly bears some time ago and illegally collecting grizzly claws, golden and bald eagle talons and feathers and bighorn sheep skulls.

Big Horn County Fire Protection District #4 applied for and received a grant for $104,617.57 to purchase a LifePak 15 with accessories and PowerLOAD/PowerPRO XT Cot. 

The grant came from the Hospitals and Healthcare Systems Preparedness and Infrastructure Program. It is part of the COVID-19 Health Disparity Grant Program.
