Veterans Day speaker spent 23 years in military

Tom Bercher had dual roles in Friday morning’s Veterans Day program at Greybull Middle School.
Normally the bagpiper, a role he’s played since moving to Big Horn County in 2013, Bercher was invited to speak this year and he shared some of his experiences with middle and high school students who filled one side of the GMS Gym.
He said he joined the military in 1983, right out of high school.

Mechanical bull in county fair’s future

Big Horn County Fair manager Cash Duncan discussed the possibility of the county purchasing a mechanical bull during the commissioners’ Nov. 7 meeting.
The idea had been discussed at previous fair board meetings. The board approved it contingent on cost of insurance, enough money left in budget and commissioner’s approval.
Duncan said insurance is available but there is no money in this year’s budget to purchase it. The cost of the bull is $12,500, which includes the cost of a trailer.

CODY, Wyo. — The Bureau of Land Management Cody Field Office will begin a wild horse bait trap gather operation on or about November 27 in the McCullough Peaks Wild Horse Herd Management Area east of Cody. The BLM will use the bait method; no helicopters will be used.  

Former mayor urges town to pursue greater efficiency before increasing rates

A former mayor, councilman and town employee urged members of the Greybull Town Council on Monday night to pursue greater operational efficiency before asking town residents to pay more for their sewer and sanitation services.
The appropriateness of the rates that support the town’s three primary enterprise funds came up at the October meeting, which ended with the council contemplating an 18-percent hike in its sewer rate and a 3-percent increase in its sanitation rate.

Mental health topic of Gov. Gordon’s recent town hall meeting in Worland

Although uplifting messages were shared, with the subject matter of mental health and suicide in Wyoming, the atmosphere at Governor Mark Gordon’s Mental Health Town Hall at the Wyoming Boys’ School on Oct. 25 was a somber one.
In the wake of the news of House Bill 65 replacing the permanent funding plan for the 988 Wyoming Suicide Prevention Hotline with a biennial funding system, the future of mental health activism in Wyoming has become uncertain.

Greybull Middle School’s annual Veterans Day program is Friday, Nov. 10 at 9 a.m. in the GMS Gym. Tom Bercher will be the speaker and coffee and cookies will be served afterward.
All local veterans are invited to attend.
