Annual Thank Our Heroes veterans run is Friday

“Inactive” Marine Nick Hernandez’s third annual Thank Our Heroes run will take place this Friday.
Hernandez says he is an “inactive” Marine — rather than a former or retired one — because he is a Marine for life.
This year’s route is different from the previous years. This year he will start at Laura Irwin Elementary and Middle/High School in Basin at 5  a.m.

Greybull FFA member competes in National FFA Agriscience Fair

More than 70,000 attendees from across the United States recently attended the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis to determine what FFA members and teams will compete for top honors in the 2023 National FFA Agriscience Fair.
Riley Thomas of the Greybull FFA Chapter in Greybull, WY, has placed eighth overall in the nation as finalist this year in the Environmental Natural Resources category in the DIVISION 5 of the competition.

Greybull’s newest venue to host Nov. 15 art showcase
The public is invited to an art showcase Wednesday, Nov. 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Wyld Sage Coffee House’s new location on Main Street in Greybull.
A new band, Light Collective, featuring Bryan Hetzel of Basin and J.D. Kunkel of Shell, will perform. The singer-songwriting duo plays Folk Americana style with their guitars.
Visual artist Lisa Kunkel will also have work on display. The exhibit begins at 6 p.m. with live music starting at 7 p.m. No cost for entry.

BHCSO announces Nov. 18 BLM land cleanup to counteract illegal dumping

The Big Horn Sheriff’s Office has had enough of people dumping trash on Bureau of Land Management land and is asking local residents to help deputies do something about it.
The sheriff’s office asks residents to meet up with deputies on Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. at Frog Rock on Road 5 in the sand hills between Cowley and Byron.

State boosts financial assistance for eligible Wyo. homeowners

AFTON (WNE) — The Wyoming Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) Program has expanded to include partial claims and increased the maximum payment from $17,000 to $35,000. These changes aim to help more Wyoming homeowners who struggled during the COVID-19 pandemic keep their homes and achieve financial stability.
Wyoming received $50 million in homeowner assistance provided by the U.S. Department of the Treasury for its HAF Program. Since launching in May 2022, the HAF Program has helped 1,496 Wyoming homeowners with a total of $11.2 million in assistance.

Greybull man dies in one-vehicle rollover

A 24-year-old Greybull man died early Sunday morning in a one-vehicle rollover accident east of Cody.
Arlo Averett was traveling east on U.S. Highway 14-16-20 at about 1:25 a.m. when his Dodge Dakota pickup left the roadway and struck a delineator post near mile marker 77, which is in Park County.  In the process of getting back on the road, Averett lost control of the vehicle, which slid sideways for approximately 150 feet before rolling several times.
Road conditions were clear and dry at the time of the crash, according to the WHP.

Free mental health sessions available to county residents

Big Horn County Prevention Specialist Travis Sylvester appeared before the commissioners via Zoom on October 17.
He explained that through the Wyoming Department of Agriculture, nearly every person in BHC qualifies for six free mental health sessions. This is through the Wyoming Department of Health. It is targeted for the ag, farming and rodeo communities. Vouchers are provided by Grace for 2 Brothers. Those interested may call 307-256-3344.

Class action TCT lawsuit tossed by Supreme Court

POWELL —- The Wyoming Supreme Court says a judge was right to throw out a lawsuit that challenged the 2014 sale of a Big Horn Basin telecommunications company.
A pair of former Tri-County Telephone Association board members alleged that leaders conspired to sell the business for much less than its worth, but District Court Judge Jason Conder tossed the class action suit last year.
 “... The undisputed facts demonstrate that no civil conspiracy existed,” Conder concluded.

Farmers market moves indoors
The Basin/Greybull Farmer’s Market will hold indoor farmers markets for the winter/spring season.
Starting in November, each market will take place the first Saturday of the month from 10 a.m.-noon at the Basin Chamber Office at 407 C Street in Basin.
