Organization collecting quilts, blankets for people of Ukraine, Turkey, Syria, Israel

LDS churches in the Big Horn Basin will serve as drop-off locations early next month for anyone wishing to donate new and clean, gently used quilts and blankets to the Wrap the World with Quilts organization.
The non-denominational non-profit is gathering the quilts to send to Ukrainian refugees and those affected by earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.  It’s also trying to establish connections to send quilts to people in Israel.

The contract for the fill of the west bank of the Big Horn River for the new bridge contracted by the county commissioners was awarded last Saturday to Stanfield  & Alderdice. We understand the  bids ranged from 18 cents to 80 cents per yard. The estimate was that it would require 4,000 yards of dirt to make the fill.
Thursday next is Thanksgiving day so that next Friday and Saturday most families will subsist on turkey hash.

BHC Public Health offers community CPR classes

Big Horn County Nurse Manager Hillary Mulley was at the commission’s Nov. 7 meeting to provide a department update.
CPR classes will be offered soon. Mulley said they would offer two classes — one for those wishing to renew their CPR card and one for those needing a new card. If there is sufficient interest, they will offer the classes once a month.

Average gas prices drop 11.3 cents in past week in Wyoming
CHEYENNE (WNE) — Average gasoline prices in Wyoming have fallen 11.3 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.37 per gallon on Monday, according to GasBuddy.com’s survey of 494 stations in Wyoming.
Prices in Wyoming are 30.4 cents per gallon lower than a month ago, and stand 18.7 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 4.2 cents in the last week and stands at $4.34 per gallon.

Audit sheds light on school district reserves

Among the items discussed at a briskly paced November meeting of the Big Horn County School District No. 3 board of trustees was the annual audit of its financial statements by Summit West CPA Group, Inc., of Lander.
In addition to identifying no material weaknesses and adequate internal controls, the auditors reported a decrease in the district’s general fund ending balance.

Yellowstone’s October visits increase 6% from year ago

JACKSON (WNE) — Recreational visits to Yellowstone National Park in October were up 26% over a year ago.
The total, 299,127 recreational visits represented a whopping 75% increase from October 2019, when “several short-term, weather-related road closures likely impacted visitation,” a Yellowstone press release said.
So far this year, Yellowstone has hosted 4,446,509 recreational visits, up 37% from 2022 and up 12% from 2019. In 2021, the year-to-date total for October was 4,789,349 visits.

GHS’s Paintbrush named state’s top 1A/2A yearbook

Greybull High School is celebrating a state championship this week after its journalism students returned from the recent Wyoming Student Media Convention in Laramie with a Golden Pony, which is given to the staff that produced the top yearbook in the 1A/2A division.

Yenny concert on BCAC stage this Sunday
Dr. Michael Yenny will play all your favorite Christmas music during a 4 p.m. performance Sunday, Nov. 19 at the Basin City Arts Center.  Dr. Yenny grew up in Greybull and loves to share his piano music.

GHS Speech opens at novice meet

The Greybull High School Speech and Debate team kicked off its 2023-2024 season last Saturday with a third-place finish in 1A/2A at a novice-only tournament in Cody.
According to coach Joel Kuper, the novice event “brought together students that were competing in their first year and provided a more equitable and less stressful introduction to competitive speech.”
Seniors Katie Murph and Noela Libner and junior Elena Campos represented Greybull at the event.

Fall musical brings Holmes’ world to life

The game is afoot! The fall community musical debuts tonight (Thursday) at 7 p.m. at the Greybull High School auditorium, with additional performances at the same time on Friday and Saturday.
Tickets can be purchased at the high school office in advance or at the door for $8 per seat or $7 for kids 10 and under and seniors over 60. Please bring exact change.
