Christian Steele Hinckley

Christian Steele Hinckley, beloved “Papa,” returned to his heavenly home on Jan. 30, 2023, at the age of 83.

He was born on Dec. 7, 1939, in Lovell. He was the oldest of seven children born to DeVere Taggart Hinckley and Madge Marchant Hinckley. The family resided in Cowley. He was very proud of his pioneer ancestry and that his grandfathers were part of the Big Horn Colonization Company. They were the second and third bishops of their town.

Christian grew up on a dairy farm and shared many humorous stories about his daily chores. He drove tractor, mowed alfalfa, put up hay and milked cows by the time he was 7 years old. As a child, he also began piano lessons and was playing advanced classical pieces by Chopin, Mozart and the like by the age of 8 or 9.

Dixie Marjean Cummings

Sept. 25, 1937 - Feb. 2, 2023

Dixie Marjean Cummings nee Presnall, 85, of Greybull, went to her eternal home on Thursday, Feb.  2, 2023 at Three Rivers Health in Basin. 

She was born in the little mining town of Gebo, Wyo., on Sept. 25, 1937, to Dick and Lucy Presnall. Her sister, Sharon Lynn, was born in Baker, Mont., in 1939. The family lived in various towns in Montana and Wyoming before moving to Greybull in December of 1945. 

Dixie attended school in Greybull and graduated in 1955 as salutatorian. She attended Central Business College. She married Jim Cummings in October of 1956. Their son, Timothy Cummings, was born the following year. Dixie worked for Big Horn Federal for 35 years, retiring in 2006. She and Jim had lived in their home on Greybull Heights since 1963.

Monte Lee Harnden

April 28, 1953- February 7, 2023

Monte Lee Harnden, 69, passed away surrounded by his family at his home in Worland, Wyoming on Feb. 7, 2023, from Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Born in Laramie, Wyo., on April 28, 1953, Monte was the youngest of Chuck and Vonnie (Martin) Harnden’s two children. Monte’s life was one filled with faith, family and friends.

Growing up in Greybull, Wyo., Monte was an active and adventurous youth.  He was involved in the Boy Scouts of America, earning his Eagle Scout distinction and attributing many of his core values to the foundational lessons and experiences he had in the scouts. 

Dixie Cummings

Dixie Cummings, 85, a longtime Greybull resident, passed away Feb. 2, 2023, at Three Rivers Healthcare.

Michael Wayne Smith

Michael Wayne Smith, our beloved father, passed away on Feb. 2, 2023 in Rexburg, Idaho at the age of 67. 

He was born on Dec. 10, 1955, in Greybull, Wyo. He was the sixth of eight children born to Scott Haskell Smith and Lova LaRae Kinghorn. The family resided on Shell Creek near Greybull, Wyo.

Mike grew up on a ranch with a life that was full of adventure. His youthful days were filled with stacking hay, irrigating, swathing and milking cows. He enjoyed sports including track, basketball and football. After graduating from Greybull High School, he was offered a scholarship to play football at Chadron State; however, his plans were changed due to a horse accident.

Meela Marie Ray

Sept. 3, 1948 - Feb. 2, 2023

Meela Marie Ray was born Sept. 3, 1948 in Worland, Wyo., to Alfred and Marie Fink. 

She graduated from Worland High School and completed her bachelor's in education in Bozeman, Mont. She spent her life working in customer service.

Meela passed away with family by her side on Feb. 2, 2023.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Greybull, Wyo.  Jim and Meela shared a passion for geology and spending time exploring the countryside.

She is preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Marie Fink and her first husband Charles Tharp.

Meela is survived by her husband Jim Ray; her three children, Loralei (Troy) Jeffers, Josh Tharp and Jessica Ray and seven grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and services will be planned for the spring.

Josephine Edela Davis

Nov. 21, 1936 - Feb. 3, 2023

Josephine Edela Davis, 86, passed away Friday, Feb. 3, 2023, after struggling with dementia and other complications. She was born Nov. 21, 1936, in Greybull, Wyo., to Edela and Charles Reidil. 

Josephine graduated from Basin High School, Class of 1953. She then went to St Joseph's Hospital in Denver, where she worked and earned her nursing certificate after three years. Soon after, she met and married James Davis on Dec. 21, 1979, in Cody, Wyo. She then worked as a nurse in Cody, Basin, and Worland, Wyo. She and her husband James Davis then moved to Arizona in 1980. In the year 2000 they moved back to Wyoming to live out the rest of their lives. 

Josephine was predeceased by her mother Edela and father Charles Reidil; her sister Charlotte Names, and her son James Davis.

Jordan Lee Jackson

Jordan Lee Jackson, 25, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Cody, Wyo., on Jan. 2, 2023. 

Jordan Lee Jackson was born in Torrington, Wyo., on Aug. 28, 1997, to Corey and Brenda Jackson. Jordan had a love for music that was passed from his dad and uncles who played for family and friends every chance they had. Jordan followed his passion for playing guitar like his dad and became a member of the band Day x Day and travelled with his friends entertaining crowds around the country. Jordan’s other passion was sports. He played basketball and football while in school for the Lusk Tigers and Greybull Buffs. He traveled with the AAU basketball team across the states one summer and was chosen to play in the Shrine Bowl his senior year of high school. 

Roger Dale Johnson, Sr.

Roger Dale Johnson, Sr., 87-year-old Greybull resident, passed away at the Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Worland, Wyo., on Jan. 4, 2023.

Roger was born in Lansing, Mich., on Aug. 3, 1935, the youngest of four children born to Floyd H and Ilah L. (Downing) Johnson.  He grew up in Michigan, receiving his formal education in Holt.

He married Kay Ann Wright on June 13, 1954, in Lansing, Mich.  The couple later had four children, Lenny, Roger, Jr., Gloria and Kelly. 

He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad, working his way to the position of conductor before he retired. 

Roger was a very caring man.  He loved his family and worked hard his whole life to provide for them, at times holding down three jobs to help them have a good life.
