All proposed Republican Party bylaws changes are considered

Dear editor:
Political parties in Wyoming are private organizations. However, unlike most private organizations, they are bound, not only by the bylaws they create, but also by state statute, Title 22.
Since the Republican State Convention in mid-April, there has been some concern by people regarding proposed bylaws changes that were presented by a county in Wyoming, and even concern that the proposed changes ought not to have been considered in the first place. It is an important part of the process that ALL proposed state bylaws changes that are voted on during county conventions be discussed, amended and voted on in the Bylaws Committee at the State Convention, to be presented to the full body of the convention for consideration. All proposed state bylaws changes submitted by counties get equal consideration in the committee.

Dear editor:
Cathy Kunkel’s letter really made me see red.  In the first place, all Marlys said was that it was just awful that people are shouting “Death to America” in Washington DC.  She’s absolutely correct. It is horrible, although it is their right.
But what the heck do the demographics of the Jan 6 protesters (not insurrectionists)  have to do with it?  As Mrs. Kunkel said, they were a cross section of patriotic Americans.  They were exercising their rights.  The whole thing was staged to make it more than it was, by Nancy Pelosi and then Liz Cheney and the democratic clowns, cancelling the National Guard, shooting an unarmed veteran, rabble rousing by Ray Epps (a federal agitator) and destroying the lives of hundreds of good patriotic Americans.
Keep it up, Marlys.  I love your columns.

I was just kidding about it being the last poem of National Poetry Month because, somehow, I forgot to write to you about one of my all-timers. (I’m sure you’ve guessed by now that I have a great many all-timers, so I can happily do this every week like clockwork.) I want to close April and open May with a poem that has meant so much to me for so many years now: W.H. Auden’s “September 1, 1939.”

It was my privilege to write the story on our co-valedictorians and the salutatorian. The valedictorians gave me way more than I could use, and the salutatorian was truly a young man of few words.
There were four or five mandatory questions for the honor students, but they also had the option of answering as many, or as few, of the other questions I posed. I wanted to share some of their additional responses to my questions.
Kelsie McColloch shared that she made it her goal when she was in the elementary school to be the top graduate, the valedictorian, when she graduated.
Way back in the dark ages, when I was in the second grade, I’m not sure I even knew what a ‘valedictorian’ was. I was just glad to have graduated from ‘See Spot Run’ to books that actually told a small story. I thought I had it made.

Healthy Thoughts Skin care and checks

As the weather warms up and we are outside more, it is important to remember to take the time to care for our skin. What are some good ways to do this? Well, make sure you are hydrating well. Your skin is an organ that needs water to function properly, just like the other organs of the body. Additionally, don’t forget the sunscreen. Of course, sunscreen is important in the winter when you are outside, but in the summer, we tend to be outside longer with more exposed skin. Remember that sunscreen is NOT a one and done but needs to be reapplied throughout the day. A good hydrating cream or lotion can also help your skin retain moisture and stay intact and maintain protection.

Facts about Jan. 6 insurrection tell a different story

Dear editor,
This letter is in response to Marlys Good’s April 18, 2024 piece, “Too Much Gloom and Doom in the News.” To quote Marlys, “For years, I have been under the impression, always believed, that when immigrants came to this country, went through the legal process and became American citizens, they pledged an allegiance to our country and our Constitution. That didn’t mean they couldn’t disagree, but the “Death to America” chants allowed — right in the White House — are chilling, and should be chilling to everyone.”
The insinuation (noun: an indirect or covert suggestion or hint, especially of a derogatory nature) that immigrants were (are) the problem is flabbergasting.
Let’s take just a quick look at the facts in the case of the January 6th insurrectionists on our U.S. Capitol building, a reasonable example of just how wrong this assertion is.

Letter to the Editor: Wyoming GOP having its own Salem Witch Trials

Dear editor:
“To our Republican leaders: Get off your high horse. To claim that you are a better Republican than another because you consider yourself as such is the Salem Witch Trials all over again.”
After this year’s state Republican convention, ongoing in Cheyenne, and reading reports of the happenings at the convention, it reaffirms my belief that our party is on a slippery slope that will lead our party to an undesirable place.
I’m concerned with the attempt of creating an “Affiliation Committee” whose sole purpose would be to decide if certain party members, elected Republican officials and officers, claiming to be Republicans are actually good Republicans.
If the findings proved that they were not, their party membership could be revoked for up to 10 years. Although this proposed amendment failed, it took up much of the time at this convention and had a strong effort behind it.

Devotions ... Loving like God

Anger, hurt, accusation abound.  When someone disagrees with our opinions, they are labeled haters.   Have we lost our ability to love even by measure?  In conversation, rather than listening and learning, are we looking for the breath to interject an opinion-override demanding acknowledgement of our supremacy in intelligence.
Christians strive to live “above the world” as the song “Higher Ground” encourages.  If we say we love God but hate our brother, our fellow human being, we’re liars.  If we can’t love our fellow man, whom we physically see, we can’t possibly love God, whom we can’t.  If we love God, we should love our fellow man also. (1 John 4:20 – 21)
