GBAC to host tournament Saturday

Hundreds of wide-eyed young grapplers will converge in Greybull Saturday for the annual youth wrestling tournament hosted by the Greybull-Basin Athletic Club.
There are approximately 60 kids on the GBAC team this year, according to Nathan Hetzel, one of the team’s coaches.  While some will see their seasons end at a tournament next weekend in Powell, the more experienced wrestlers will continue to prep for their annual state tournament.

Thinclads debut at Wind River Ice Breaker

=Greybull High School sent just 13 athletes to the first track and field meet of the spring Thursday in Pavillion.
The Wind River Ice Breaker attracted about a dozen teams, with the Jackson Hole girls and the Burlington boys topping their respective divisions.  Greybull scored six points in the boys division, two in the girls division.

GHS track team debuts Saturday

Greybull High School’s track and field athletes are scheduled to open the season Saturday at the Wind River Icebreaker in Pavillion.  Start time is 9:30 a.m.
Monday, March 4 was the first day that teams could practice.  
Nolan Tracy, the team’s head coach, said he initially welcomed 32 kids.  Five practices in, that number was down to 29, with most being freshmen or sophomores.

GBAC wrestlers battle at Thermopolis tourney

Several members of the Greybull-Basin Athletic Club placed at the Wrestleopolis tournament held Saturday in Thermopolis.
The team is scheduled to wrestle in Lovell this week before returning home to host its annual tournament on Saturday, March 23.

Four Buffs named to all-conference team

With the end of the small school high school basketball season came the release of the all-conference and all-state teams.
And as expected, the Greybull Buffs were well represented on both after a season that produced a conference title, a second-place finish at regionals and a fifth-place finish at state.
The Buffs put four players on the all-conference team, headed by unanimous player of the year Carlos Rodriguez along with Coby Henderson, Juan Acuna and Caden Hunt.

Three Lady Buffs named all-conference

Kennedy Craft, Perla Rodriguez and Ashtyn Chapman have been honored by being named to the Northwest all-conference team at the end of the 2023-24 basketball season. This is the second year Craft has been selected for the elite squad.
Mataia Henderson was an honorable mention selectee.
All four were important competitors on the Lady Buff squad this year, and all four were worthy of the honor.
Coach Jeff Hunt also recognized his seniors for their work and dedication to the team.

Wrestlers compete in Lander, two qualify for nationals

A week after their high school seasons ended, Bennett Sanford, Braxdon Patterson, Caiden Sorenson, Tawny Bertolini and Gabby Dowling were back on the mats in Lander, competing in Wyoming Amateur Wrestling Association’s junior and female state competition.
Sanford, wrestling at 132 pounds, took fourth in Greco and fourth in freestyle.
Bertolini, in the 130-pound girls division, placed second in Greco and fourth in freestyle.
Dowling took second in Greco and second in freestyle in the 140-pound girls division.

Good aces Hole No. 2 at Midway

The only thing that might be more uncommon than a hole-in-one, which is something very few golfers ever experience, is a hole-in-one on a Wyoming golf course in February.
Most years, Midway Golf Course is buried under several inches of snow.  But the unseasonably warm weather changed the equation, allowing golfers to take aim at temporary greens well in advance of their normal season.
