GBAC enjoys successful trip to state tournament

The Greybull-Basin Athletic Club concluded its season at the Wyoming Amateur Wrestling Association’s state tournament last weekend in Casper with two of its team members claiming state titles and nearly everyone winning at least one match.
Kaislee Nyberg and Maythe Garay produced the biggest wins for GBAC, capturing freestyle and folkstyle titles in their respective weight classes.  Nyberg wrestled in the 10-and-under girls division, Garay in the 12-and-under girls division.

With the Bill Gerrard Memorial cancelled due to the expectation of rain, the Greybull Buffs and other track teams were last-minute additions to the field for the D&D Invitational April 4 in Worland.
The four 3A teams in attendance, including the host Warriors, Powell, Lovell and Thermopolis, dominated the team score. Only the Riverside girls, who placed fourth, prevented them from sweeping the top four places in the boys and girls divisions.

Boys’ teams wins divisions at home meet

Greybull Middle School opened the track and field season on a high note, winning the seventh- and eighth-grade boys divisions at its annual home meet Friday afternoon.  The GMS girls teams also contended for team titles before finishing second to Lovell.
Three Greybull athletes, Josephine Boyer, Triston Gross and Ashlyn Chacon, won individual events.

Delta Craft won her division in freestyle, folkstyle and Greco to pace the Greybull-Basin Athletic Club at last weekend’s Powell tournament.
Craft’s wins came in the 12-and-under girls division. Here’s a rundown of how all the GBAC wrestlers  fared:

Tracksters near qualifying marks

Several Greybull High School athletes made runs at state qualifying standards at a small meet Thursday in Burlington.
The Buffs placed fifth in both divisions, with the girls tallying 27 points and the boys 18.5.  Neither team was whole due to spring break; of the 25 athletes out for track, just 12 competed.
Chaise Benasky, a senior, and Marlee Henson, a sophomore, came closest to punching their tickets to the state meet.

GMS home meet Friday

Greybull Middle School opens its six-meet spring track-and-field season on its home oval Friday afternoon, with field and running events starting at noon.
“We are so excited to get to compete here this year,” said Coach Becky Eichelberger, noting the loss of last year’s meet due to inclement weather. “It looks like Mother Nature is going to have a beautiful day for some good competition.”
Numbers “are pretty comparable” to last year, she said.
The roster lists 46 athletes: 18 eighth graders, 16 seventh graders and 12 sixth graders.

Buffs post PRs, but struggle to score at Cody Invite

Greybull High School athletes struggled to stand out in a Cody Invitational field of mostly 3A and 4A teams, registering just six points on the day.
The meet attracted 15 teams, and on sheer numbers alone, the big schools held a distinct advantage.  The final standings showed Cody taking both the boys and girls divisions with 194 and 137.5 points.
Joining the Fillies in the top five of the boys division were Worland, with 93 points, Lovell with 71.5, Buffalo with 70.25 and Riverton with 62.
