On Saturday, families from all over Big Horn County crowded the indoor arena in Basin for the Fair’s Winter Carnival, an event that raised funds for future fairgrounds improvement projects.

This is a question being asked many times since the Lions Club advertised the popularity contest to be staged at the benefit dance being given by the athletic committee of that organization Wednesday, Feb. 6 at the Grand Palace. Whoever the winner of the contest may be, she cannot help but be pleased, as she will have seven different articles to select from.

In its first four weeks of fundraising, the Big Horn Basin Dinosaur and Geoscience Museum has raised enough money to purchase a full body cast of Big Al 2, the world’s most complete allosaur.

Temperature records fall under weight of cold snap

Before warming slightly on Tuesday afternoon, the Big Horn Basin was stuck in a deep freeze with subzero temperatures that led to nonstop windchill advisories and warnings, the cancellation of school events and travel plans, reports of frozen water lines and difficult times for people working outdoors.

More arrests, but far fewer citations and calls for GPD

The Greybull Police Department made more arrests, but responded to fewer calls and issued fewer citations last year than it did in 2022, according to a year-end report prepared by Chief Ken Blosser.

Fair board mulls pig barn options

The Big Horn County Fair Board met Jan. 8. Board members in attendance were Tracy Haley, Kelli Mercer, Tucker McKim, Tim Allen, Austin Layne and Luke Foss. 

Russell, Good on VCSU honor roll

Cassie Russell of Basin and Sarah Good of Greybull have been named to the 2023 fall semester honor roll at Valley City State University. Students named to the honor roll completed six to 11 semester hours and attained a GPA of 3.5 or better.

Winter Festival is Saturday

Bucking bull, cake walk, shooting sports, and food are just some of the fun things happening at the fairgrounds in Basin on Saturday, Jan. 20.  The Inaugural Winter Festival will be held from 5 – 8 p.m. in the indoor arena.
