‘Warrior Bike’ program seeks support in Big Horn County

The Warrior Bike Program is a non-profit outdoor therapy program that supports veterans transitioning from military service. They bike 3,700 plus miles of the Great American Rail Trail.
The Great American Rail Trail is a project of the Rails to Trails Conservancy. It crosses 12 states from Washington, DC to Washington State.

Kids Fishing Day events are Saturday at Basin, Cody, Burgess Junction

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department invites anglers to celebrate Free Fishing Day on June 1.   
Each year Game and Fish designates the first Saturday of National Boating and Fishing Week as a free fishing day when anyone can fish in Wyoming — except within the Wind River Reservation and Yellowstone National Park  —  without a fishing license.

May 20 — 5:54 a.m.: A vehicle drove through a fence in Burlington on Highway 30 at MP 125.
7:12 a.m.: Deputies referred an accident involving a small white vehicle off the road at MP 120 on Highway 30 to another agency.
7:50 a.m.: Deputies responded to a reports of wildlife on East Third Street in Shell. The matter was referred to another agency.
9:31 a.m.: A lost firearm was reported to deputies at the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office on Murphy Street.

May 20 — 7:38 a.m.: Officers patrolled the school zone.
10:59 a.m.: Officers received a traffic complaint about a vehicle on Highway 14-16-20. It was referred to another agency.
1:30 p.m.: A member of the public requested to speak with an officer.
3:20 p.m.: Officers responded to a fender bender on North Second Street.
4:03 p.m.: An accidental 9-1-1 call was received by dispatch.
4:26 p.m.: Officers received reports of dogs barking all afternoon on Third Avenue South.

Gordon, Republican governors oppose two WHO proposals

CHEYENNE (WNE) — Twenty-four Republican governors, including Gov. Mark Gordon, joined together Wednesday to write a letter to President Biden, stating their united opposition to two proposals currently under negotiation that would grant the World Health Organization unprecedented and unconstitutional powers over the United States and its people.

BHC unemployment rate second highest in state

Big Horn County experienced the largest unemployment rate decrease in the state between March and April, according to a report from the Research and Planning section of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services.
The county’s unemployment rate fell from 4.4% to 3.4%.  Park and Washakie counties saw the second and third most significant declines, as Park’s unemployment rate dropped from 3.8% to 2.9% and Washakie’s fell from 4% to 3.2%.

Average gas prices drop slightly in Wyoming during past week

CHEYENNE (WNE) — Average gasoline prices in Wyoming have fallen 0.6 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.31 on Monday, according to Gas-Buddy.com’s survey of 494 stations in Wyoming.
Prices in Wyoming are 0.7 cents per gallon lower than a month ago, and stand 4.4 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

Wyo-Ben adds shifts, increases production

Already one of the largest employers in the Big Horn Basin, Wyo-Ben is poised to experience even more growth in the months to come as it ramps up production to meet worldwide demand, according to its chief executive officer, David Brown.
When Wyo-Ben announced the acquisition of M-I SWACO’s bentonite assets in the Greybull area early last November, Brown hinted that growth may be on the horizon, but not even he saw it coming this soon.

Incumbents among early office seekers

The filing period for candidates seeking town council, county commission and state legislative seats opened on May 16.
In the early going, it’s the  incumbents who are accounting for all of the filing activity.
Mayor Myles Foley has filed for re-election to another two-year term in Greybull.
Two four-year terms on the council are also up for election this year. Incumbent Gerald Crist has filed for re-election.  Chris Dooley, the other council member whose term ends this year, had not as of Tuesday morning.
