G-R claims two titles at conference tournament

While there will be some who try their luck at state, the middle school wrestling season ended last weekend in Thermopolis for members of the Greybull-Riverside wrestling team.
Thirteen of its grapplers competed, and of those 13, five placed with all the breakthroughs coming in the girls and B divisions.  None of G-R’s five A division wrestlers (Marshall Brown, Kenneth McClure, Riley Wiggins, Tell Edeler and Levi Cochrane) placed.

Four Buffs make all-conference

With the conclusion of the high school football season came the release of all-conference and all-state teams in Wyoming’s five classifications.
The Greybull Buffs, who play in 1A nine-man, put one player, junior Lucas Bolzer, on the all-state team and four on the all-conference team, where Bolzer was joined by senior Joel Miller and juniors Wyatt Didrickson and Caiden Sorenson.  Senior Isaak Gaytan and sophomore Caiden Hunt made second team.

Cook to UW: Four-time State 3A champ to play college golf for Cowgirls

In less than a year, Erika Cook overcame a car crash, won a fourth state title and signed a generous offer to play golf for the University of Wyoming.
Cook was drawn to the school because of the coach.
“I got to know her a lot this year,” she said. “The offer, it was just, it made the most sense.”

Wrestlers start fast at Brawl in the Basin

Greybull-Riverside got off to a fast start at Saturday’s Brawl in the Basin, winning 10 straight matches before leveling off over the course of nine grueling hours of middle school wrestling in Worland.
From a big-picture standpoint, the team continues to improve. “We have since the first weekend,” said Coach Mark Sanford. “A lot of things have gotten better. Their intensity definitely has, and they are really battling, which is what you want to see.”

GMS girls take 2 of 3 from Burlington

Greybull Middle School girls basketball teams went a combined 3-2 last week in games against Burlington and Ten Sleep.
The eighth graders earn a split, beating Burlington 23-20 on Nov. 7 but losing to Ten Sleep 22-19 on Nov. 10.  The contests followed on the heels of a 33-10 win over Riverside on Nov. 10.

Two athletes, Kelsie McColloch and Aleksey McColloch, were honored by selection to the elite 2A all-state team. Senior Kelsie was a repeat all-state honoree, having made the squad last year also.
Five members of the Greybull team made the all-conference team: Chaise Benasky, Kennedy Craft, Caroline Boyer and Kelsie and Aleksey McColloch.  Additionally, Kelsie was named the conference player of the year and Sara Schlattmann was honored by her fellow coaches as the conference coach of the year.

Greybull Middle School athletes have been learning the fundamentals in practice and seeing their hard work pay off in games during the early stages of the girls basketball season.
Becky Eichelberger, Tami Wright and Jamie Keisel are coaching the 24 girls who play on eighth-, seventh- and sixth-grade teams.
The eighth graders include Avery Allen, Ashlyn Chacon, Addison Coscarelli, Natalie Diaz-Rios, Fallon Hoffman, Caitlyn Hunt, Shelby Hunt, Adeline Kunkel and Angela Myers.

State football titles on the line later this week

The high school football season in Wyoming will end this weekend with five title games on the campus of the University of Wyoming in Laramie.
Only one team from Big Horn County still has championship aspirations.  
The Burlington Huskies will face Little Snake River in the 1A six-man championship game.  It’ll be a rematch of last year’s title game, which was won by the Rattlers, 55-8.
Kickoff is at 10 a.m. Saturday at War Memorial Field.
