Behind nine individual champions, the Greybull-Basin Athletic Club wrestlers snagged fifth place at last weekend’s Wrestle-opolis, a three-style tournament in Hot Springs County.
In the race for a trophy, the Worland Warriors had to coax every point they possibly could out of the athletes they took to last weekend’s State Indoor Track and Field Championships in Gillette.
Greybull-Riverside captured fifth place in the 2A division, its best finish in nearly a decade, at last weekend’s State 2A Wrestling Championships in Casper.
The Greybull Lady Buffs lost their regional tournament opener to Big Piney, came back to beat Kemmerer in a loser-out game to give them a shot at a trip to state if they could get by Wyoming Indian High School. A great showing, but the Buffs “just didn’t have enough left in the tank,” and fell, ending their season with the 60-37 loss.
Although the final two games of the regular season did not go as the Lady Buffs would have scripted them, they still ended up third in the conference and will take on Big Piney at noon today (Thursday, Feb. 27) in the middle school gym in Riverton.
